Law firm bolsters healthcare practice with addition of two partners

M. Elizabeth Walker and Jerimi J. Ullom have joined law firm Barnes & Thornburg’s Indianapolis office as healthcare and public finance partners.

The pair moved over from national healthcare-focused Hall Render after more than 15 years there, according to Barnes & Thornburg.

“Elizabeth and Jerimi’s legal prowess in the nonprofit healthcare financing arena is a unique value-add that will further equip our deep bench of attorneys to service the growing needs of our healthcare industry clients,” John Kelly, chair of the firm’s healthcare department and healthcare industry practice, said in a statement.

Walker, a tax-exempt bond attorney, practices law focused on debt financing for 501(c)(3) and governmental organizations, with particular experience in healthcare finance. She represents borrowers, issuers, underwriters and lenders across the United States and territories in tax-exempt and taxable financings. In addition to her transactional experience, Elizabeth advises clients on ongoing tax, disclosure and obligated group compliance matters.

 She is a member of the board of directors of the National Association of Bond Lawyers , a former editor of the Federal Taxation of Municipal Bonds Deskbook, and was the first chair of NABL’s government relations committee. She routinely serves as a presenter and panelist at NABL conferences. 

Ullom is bond and borrower’s counsel for healthcare, governmental and other nonprofit clients, and underwriter’s and lender’s counsel in financing transactions across the country. He has worked as bond counsel to state agencies, cities, towns, counties and other governmental units in connection with the financing of capital projects. He also specializes in real estate financing strategies for 501(c)(3) organizations, including the use of charitable foundation leases to deliver value to nonprofit organizations.

Jerimi Ullom joins Barnes & Thornburg as a partner, based in Indianapolis.

He has also worked on public-private partnership (P3) transactions, involving healthcare and nonprofit participants. In the private markets, Jerimi represents for-profit real estate developers in transactions that include public or economic development components. He was previously an attorney at Barnes & Thornburg from 2000-2008.

Elizabeth earned her J.D. from Georgetown University and her B.A. from the University of Kentucky. Jerimi earned his J.D. from DePaul College of Law and his B.A. from DePauw University.
